Community Update #11
April 30, 2020
Dear Graded Community,
As we continue our distance learning journey into May, I would like to share a video with you that was created by two of our faculty members in partnership with Graded Communications. Using GoPro cameras, Meg (Middle School Humanities Teacher) and Dave Griswold (High School Mathematics and Computer Science Teacher) provide us with an inside view into their lives as full-time teachers/parents during this pandemic.
Many of you are juggling professional responsibilities and parenting roles, while simultaneously supporting your children’s learning. I am sure you will relate closely to the Griswolds’ experience.
Over the past six weeks, via email letters, videos, and Zoom Coffees with the Superintendent, we have navigated this experience together, openly sharing the challenges we are facing. I have and continue to value your honesty and willingness to partner with us.
Knowing now that we will finish the school year “from a distance” doesn’t mean that it is over. Our faculty have honed their online teaching skills and developed modified and innovative methods to meet student needs. We have increased faculty contact hours with students and the effectiveness of instructional delivery. As a result, teachers are reporting increased evidence of student learning.
In this video, Meg and Dave discuss distance learning, the creative teaching methods they use, and the challenges they face. I am sure you will enjoy it.
Please continue to be safe and well.
