Community Update #14: Holidays
May 19, 2020

Dear Graded Community,

Yesterday, both the state and city governments of São Paulo announced that two holidays, June 11 and July 9, would be moved forward to Wednesday, May 20, and Thursday, May 21. Since these June and July dates fall during our teachers’ scheduled vacation period, we will continue to hold classes and operate according to our normal schedule.

We anticipate that the government will also advance the November 20 holiday to May 25. We have asked our faculty to switch this holiday back to the original November 20 date, so that we may maintain our current schedule and avoid disrupting the academic momentum we are experiencing.

Our teachers are committed to maximizing each day remaining during this school year, and I am confident you will support their efforts in prioritizing the learning of your child(ren).

The advancement of these holidays is a public health measure to reduce travel and human interaction, as public hospitals reach a 90% ICU occupancy rate. Since our teachers and your child(ren) are working from home, holding classes will not result in increased pressure on São Paulo’s healthcare system.

We will operate based upon our current calendar and hold classes on all regularly scheduled school days until our last school day on June 10.

I appreciate your support and partnership,

Richard Boerner
Superintendent
