Graded COVID-19 Testing Policy

February 23, 2021

Dear Graded Community,

We would like to clarify Graded’s mandatory COVID-19 RT-PCR testing policy. Please read this entire message very carefully, as it contains important information regarding acceptable testing.

Graded students and employees must undergo RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing within three days of each new campus session. They must present a negative test result in order to be admitted to campus. Students who do not take the test, do not register their test properly, or test positive for COVID-19, will be required to attend class from a distance via our dual-synchronous learning platform.

Testing Option One

Graded has partnered with Mendelics, a Latin American pioneer and leader in New Generation Sequencing (NGS), to provide a reliable and non-invasive saliva-based PCR test. For your convenience, we conduct drive-thru testing in the school’s Main Parking Garage on Fridays between 4:00-8:00 pm. We also allow you to administer the test at home. The cost per test is R$95 and will be added to your tuition bill.

It is critical that you follow all testing directions and register your child’s test with Mendelics. If you do not register your child’s test on the Mendelics website, it will be deemed invalid.

If you choose, you may pick up your child’s test kit in Graded’s Main Parking Lot on Fridays from 9:00 am-2:00 pm and bring it home for your child to complete. You must return the sealed vial to the school by 10:00 am the following day so that it may be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

Testing Option Two

Alternatively, you may elect to have your child tested elsewhere. Important: Graded only accepts Mendelics saliva-based RT-PCR tests. Other allowable PCR tests must be nose-and-throat swabs, and those must be conducted at a laboratory, not at a pharmacy or clinic.

Graded does NOT accept the following COVID-19 tests:

  • Serological (antibody) tests
  • Rapid Test Kit Antigen (RTK-Ag) tests
  • Saliva-based RT-lamp tests from non-Mendelics laboratories
  • PCR tests from clinics

We recognize that no testing regimen is 100% effective. However, widespread testing of our students, faculty, and staff will enable us to detect the vast majority of asymptomatic cases and reduce the likelihood of viral transmission within our community.

If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact
